Assessment/Evaluation Process & Treatment Interventions: A Comprehensive Clinical Assessment will be completed at the time of the initial session. If requesting Substance Abuse services the initial assessment may include the use of a screening tool (MAST or SASSI) as well as a breathalyzer and urine drug test. Sometime a collateral interview may be recommended to verify the sobriety which will be needed to report to the state. When working with substance abuse clients I primarily use a motivational interviewing approach. I have found that this perspective fits well with my view of addiction and my conceptualization of how people can make long-term, effective change in their lives. Working together with clients dealing with their substance use allows for them to have greater autonomy in the change process, resulting in an empowerment and internalization of change.
Have you recently been charged or convicted of a DWI in North Carolina? The first step in the license restoration process is to obtain a DWI assessment by an agency fully licensed in North Carolina as a DWI service provider. The assessment helps to determine what level of substance use education or treatment you will be required to complete to restore your driving privileges. The assessment which is typically about 1 ½ hours includes a review of the individual’s substance use history, a clinical interview, review of driving record, and completion of a structured assessment questionnaire.
– Picture ID
– A copy of the Blood Alcohol Content (BAC), Refusal report, or Blood test report. To obtain a copy of these reports, contact the Clerk of Court in the county where the DWI occurred.
** You do not need to obtain a copy of your North Carolina Motor Vehicle report (MVR), we will get one for you for a fee of $11.00
SAP ASSESSMENTS:
What happens during a SAP evaluation?
During the evaluation, the SAP will look over your case, have you complete one or more assessment tools and ask targeted questions to get more information. There is no need to feel nervous. Answer the questions honestly, just like you would in a therapy session or a conversation with a friend.
After your substance abuse evaluation, your SAP will outline a plan for your Return-to-Duty process (RTD). This may include substance abuse awareness classes, individual counseling, or whatever level of care is appropriate for your individual case.
You will refer you to places where you can complete the required education and/or treatment. Once you successfully complete the education and/or treatment recommendations given by your SAP, you will go through a final evaluation with your SAP to assess your readiness for job re-entry.
How many SAP evaluations will I need?
At minimum, you will complete two SAP evaluations. One will occur at the beginning and one will occur after completing the recommended treatment. You can always check in if you have any questions along the way.
Initial SAP Assessment Cost: $250
Follow-up SAP Assessment Cost: $250
